Who we are:
Making Encinitas Streets Safer
We are a group of parents, neighbors and concerned Encinitas residents that felt compelled to get involved after the tragic death of 12 year old Emery Chalekian on April 25, 2025 at 6:50pm.
Emery was crossing the street with a friend at Encinitas Blvd and Village Square after getting dinner between rehearsals at a local dance studio, Performing Arts Workshop. She was killed in the crosswalk when a driver ran the red light and struck Emery, throwing her body roughly 50 feet. Emery died instantly. When Emery was killed the world shattered for her parents and younger brother and left a community in mourning.
Working towards safer streets has given Emery's parents, John and Bridget, purpose in their grief and we are committed to standing by them to make change in honor of their daughter.
In the words of John Chalekian, “We can foster change: safer roads - more responsible drivers -give your kids a chance to become adults.”
